France will host Euro 2016 after finishing ahead of Italy and Turkey in a UEFA vote on Friday.
France previously staged the 1960 competition -- a mini-tournament featuring four teams -- and were hosts again in 1984, winning it with a team captained by Michel Platini, the current UEFA president. France has also hosted two World Cups.
