McDaid out to prove himself

Carlisle's new signing Sean McDaid is ready to make up for lost time after being handed a career lifeline by Cumbrians manager Greg Abbott.

McDaid, 23, has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year should he make 30 starts next season after his recent release from Doncaster.

McDaid, who has endured an injury-ravaged two years after dislocating his knee in a training match in May 2008, said: "It was a frustrating season for me last season, but I'm back from the injury and I'm ready to go now.

"I know that there'll be no favours here and that I'll have to work hard to earn my place, but I'm ready for the challenge."

The former Leeds trainee added: "I'm coming here to play as many games as possible and if I'm doing that then it will mean that I'm enjoying my football and, hopefully, that things are going well."
